It is the modern day equivalent of being the master of your own castle – and usually in much more warm and beautiful places. Of course we’re talking about owning a big peace of this planet we call home, somewhere nobody can bother you: Your private island!
In this article, we feature the Top 10 Most Expensive Islands in the World;
1. Lanai Island, Hawaii – $600 million
It’s only fitting that the most expensive island in the world should have a famous owner – who in this case is Oracle founder and CEO, Larry Ellison, currently the world’s eighth richest person, with a net worth of somewhere around $40 billion.
Lanai is a privately owned island in easy sight of Maui’s western shore and the smallest publicly accessible inhabited island in the chain. It is also known as Pineaple Island because of its past as an island-wide pineapple plantation.
Tech billionaire Larry Ellison bought 98% of the island from fellow billionaire David Murdock of Dole Foods.
